Before We Are Still

With so many people, I’ve met in this life
Some nice and friendly, others looking for a fight
Just the way it goes, stepping in from the cold
Dealing in both, with a smile and a joke
Sitting by the water, in the day or the night
Watch the waves rolling by, the stars shining bright
Finding your place, with friends or alone
Hearing the loons, singing of their home
With a group of people later, strangers and friends
Escape from the madness, the daily grind you’re in
Pass around the guitar, singing your own songs
No matter how it goes, it can’t be wrong
Never taking long, enjoy it while it lasts
If you ever find yourself happy, this too will pass
The struggle of life, never meant to be easy
Maybe why we have jokes, the tragic is easing
Getting to the end, so much time has past
The candle in the wind, getting blown out fast
No regrets for the laughter, the fool on the hill
The times we ran faster, before we are still
