We'll Always Be a Maybe

We’re both poets yearning for a way to get it out of our system
Jealousy looms us both when we’re committed to another
But we never act on how we feel, we just let it slide
Maybe we’re too afraid to explore each other’s minds
I don’t think it’ll matter where we are
As long as we still talk there’ll always be something there
Maybe I never fully got over you, even if I met another
And I feel guilty for admitting
With her there was nothing there
And I know that you are scared I can assure you that I am too
And I might not be what you want right now I know I made you feel like an option
But I cannot shake this feeling that there’s something between us
So I guess that we’ll always be a maybe
Maybe in a way as awful as it is to say
It was a blessing that she left me because it gave me room to breathe
To evaluate the way I was feeling, maybe subconsciously I knew
That the connection was always stronger with you
And I would be surprised if later in life
Nothing happened between us and we surrounded ourselves in others
Because we connect on another level, something so rare
Now we can keep kidding ourselves or finally go there
And I want you to kiss me so I know
What it’s like to be with someone who knows me inside out
I want you and the way you’d take things slow
The way you’d love all of me and never let go
I get it, you say that you just want to be friends
But it feels like a shame if we amounted to nothing
And I know you’re afraid of losing me, I’m afraid of losing you
So now I know exactly where I stand with you
