Never Were

Used to spend my days as a kid reading books that put wild thoughts in my head.
Parents wouldn’t let me work so I could get good grades, make a life for myself,
and move away.
We could give our bodies for social protest and not give a damn about the
future consequences.
Speak for yourself on your own two feet. When you’ve got kids and rent,
then come and see me.
I keep reminding myself I make mistakes all the time.
Holding to higher standards, unreachable lines.
Here’s to promises we try to keep.
I’d like to take back some things that were said.
It’s hard to see things through when you’ve got the upper hand.
Hindsight seems like a poor excuse for being bored and angry with nothing to
lose.
Learning there’s more than violence to radical politics.
