Protector

It’s hard to think that not so long ago I was a child.
It seems such a thing of the past.
Somewhere along the line I gave up wishing I could fly.
For I’d found someone who soared.
Go, run away you coward.
What sort of beast runs from a man — you.
Your time is near, and how you survive is now in your hands.
I watched in awe as it clawed at her wings in half the time it took to cry for
help.
Protector, protect her.
Heavenly white feathers fatally damaged and spattered in deep red.
We will surely reach the heavens for we’ve already been to hell,
And here we stand.
We will wait for our chance.
One day we will take to the skies again,
But until then, we will mend our wings and learn to fly again.
The choice is yours but this is mine
