Don't Try

When my boss comes to me in the hall
he’s so clever pulls the strings knows it all
tries to hint there’s some new unimportant chore
I say: «I'd prefer not to.»
Shallow people with their plans
all they want is more money
make a living make ends meet
just wasting time ‘till you die
A friend of mine has a pretty wife
he gets to see her every once in a while
birds and bees don’t take too much of his time
occasionally I drop by for a friendly visit
Waves make me smile I drift awhile
waves they look like ghosts from the shoreline
waves play their little sleep song
waves are on their way
I love the waves
