There used to be Mom and Pop motels
Up and down this beach
You could walk anywhere you wanted to go
Right beside the street
Now it’s four lanes with traffic lights
Delivery trucks so loud
No more beach motels around
Just condos in the clouds
Some bought them cheap, some paid too much
For their view from way up high
It might be on the beach but it’s not the same
When you live in a concrete box up in the sky
There was beach access everywhere
Mom and Pop motels were cool
Even if you weren’t staying there
You could still lay by the pool
Now the condos have security guards
Patrolling like bloodhounds
Each unit has an owner
And they don’t want you around

Two of them slept on each bed
The rest slept on the floor
Now the Association regulations say
The condos they’re not tents
All the condo owners want
Fewer bodies and maximum rent
