A Short Lifetime in Transit

I whisper whiskey tainted wishes
From my breath into the wind
Scars and tattoos hide the bitterness
Still left from where I’ve been
This is more than notes and chords
This is us declaring war
On the empty fate sewn in our bones
I hope we never come back home
And I can’t help but think that this could all just end
Right here in front of me if I just let this go
And I can’t help but think that you’re now miserable
As you traded your remaining youth
For a former love who has you fooled
When the comforts of safety no longer exist
And the choice is to struggle, give in, or resist
You search for the reasons on why you began
As they trail in the distance far off from the van
And hope is a message you scream at the night
As you starve in the heat and wait for daylight
To restore the faith that you had in the youth
And collapse the culture; cheap and mass produced
(And I hope we never come back home)
We’ll never go back home
And we’ll pave the roads that the wind will follow
We’ll forge ahead from the lives we spent
Making memories of our discontent
