If I could sleep for just a week
I know you’d be calling me
Then i could tell you what it means
Not to hear from you
Was it only hours ago
When I was talking with you
Trying to tell you what to do
Or is my memory that weak
Did nothing I ever say to you
No way I ever thought of you
Mean or do anything at all
And you’re not defenceless or poor loose
It’s just a ringing in your ear
Just a dead hum that doesn’t go anywhere
Sometimes it’s me talking
Other times it’s me listening
But it is never both at once
When I was mean i never meant
Everything that I told you
Which is why I sometimes wish
I could take it all back
If I could sleep for just a week
And wake up just before it all begins again
I’ll know what I’m here for
