Do you ever listen to silence?
Or are you to preoccupied with business assignments
And visiting clients from industry giants?
Time is money — and you measure minutes in diamonds
Who needs to sit through all that sickening silence
When you can carry sound waves of glistening vibrance
Through headphones as big as your iris?
Cut off from the world in self-inflicted confinement
What if you switched off that little appliance?
Canceled all your meetings with the flick of a stylus
How long could you listen without lifting your eyelids
Living only with your brain and what’s been sitting inside it?
Would you discover worlds within that intimated island
From the infinite highness to unlimited wideness
Or are you too addicted to differing climates
Being guided from outside by invisible pilots?
Have you gotten used to being blissfully mindless
Unable to dream without some stimulus firing?
Or perhaps there’s a place you have an interest in hiding
A chilling reminder of an inner desire that you’ve long since given up fighting,
out of fear of eliciting violence?
See, the music of the world was once the hint of aliveness
Until it became an escape from any symptom of virus
So I dare you to ask yourself with innocent wiseness
