I Should Be Sleeping

I should be sleeping but I’m not
I should be sleeping but it’s much too hot
The air is too hot, almost too hot, for me to breathe
I should be sleeping but these thoughts
I should be sleeping, they tie me in knots
These thoughts are so sad, almost too dark, for me to breathe
As the punks poster for their gig
As the drunks get drunk as pigs
I lay awake in bed
And contemplate fingerprints and snowflakes
