Zeus on the Mountainside

A ghost in my room
Admires the evening bloom
A midnight parade of my children at play
Each one so bright! Casting a silver light
A soft serenade at the end of an age
Wings don’t mend easy when men are so greedy
And so this owl growls old as you leave me, but oh!
The wonders that lie on the opposite side

Watch those men claw at the sails
The whale, splashing about
He gave off a shout and let fly his tail
The men, forming the ranks, they huddled with shanks
And threw from the rails
One, soon became more
Resting the beast, forever more
Zeus on the mountainside
Tossing his bolts of light
A blatant barrage boast the sounds of applause
And I on that mountainside
A voyeur with jealous eyes
I studied his flaws and began sabotage
Stealing his secrets I reeled at the sweetness
And so he turned and I laughed at his weakness, but oh
He smote me and left me with no business plan

What’s in a statue a plaque or a black suit
But things you’ll have to arrange in the back room
A strange and terrible lie that you’ll chase your whole life
Trust me the glory was only rewarding
Until I realized the praise was so boring
So strange it could never equate to this soft serenade
