Do you feel off balance?
Like there’s a little too much of something and a little too less of something
else?
At breakneck speeds, we stand on one leg with the other suspended in an air of
uncertainty, while we hop furiously towards our goals
And somewhere along the way there was a shaded man disguised as an elder who
stretched out his fingers to give us what he said was a prosperous life
Did we take it because we wanted it?
Or did we take it because we just didn’t know?
Four to six years promising each other that one day we’d make it out on our own,
but together for a while
It’s funny how somehow we all planned to save up and buy apartments with
different friends
But two by two I know we’ll be foiled by a primarily collegiate disappointment;
secondarily financial
Turns out, saving up doesn’t work when there’s nothing there to save
And the tiniest hope for some sort of future security dies by sword forged in
the impossible fires of the American dream
I must be dreaming
Or having night terrors
Can you hear me screaming?
My mouth is not open, but it may as well be
If you pay attention, you’ll notice
Notice how I’m sitting up in bed, stiff as a board with my eyes glued to the
wall as it shines back like the dullest thing I’ve ever seen
Forged in the fires of the American dream
They wielded the blade at us and sure enough, we will to the next ones as the
weapon is passed down
Eradicating all control in the one place that we really need it:
If you haven’t guessed yet, our heads
And we unruly bunch take over what we claim to be our own territory to begin
with
But we can’t think right with minds that never were
Dreams aren’t always the most logical things, seeing as they tend to stretch
the truth of reality
