But here’s an object more of dread
That of the grave contains
A human form with reason, flare
Or wretched life remains
When terrors spread and neighbours ran
Your dangerous friend’s supplied
Soon your howlin' crazy, man
Your limbs were fast confined
How then you and shriek aloud
Your bones and sinews bare
And fiendish omit brazen growl
With burnin', animal glare
You begged and swore and wept and prayed
With manic laughter, joy
A fearful, worthy son’s is plagued
By pains that killed their man
Here, held their breath with the spell
Seems 'round
Whose well them tears and fell
Upon the listing ground
And when it ranks it
Any long-time, sooth the fiercer woes
I’ll clean and play thy mournful song
Upon the still night rose
But this is past and long remains
Heresy or the proved
The piercing shrieks and soothing screams
Are now forever mute
Now fare thee well, morning calls
The subject now has woke
All mental pains, my time’s gone lost
As lost as power to know
I’ve heard it oft as I dream
For distance sweet and long
