Lamentation

Worms did eat the apple of my eye
I reach out for the dust to draw it nigh
Nigh
I listen for a daughter’s earthly cry
I only hear the wind around me sigh
Sigh
I walked down darkened corridor
With raspy throated troubadour
Who slowing, sinking, toward the floor
Lay down and lies behind me evermore
Evermore
I’ve been looking for the angels in the snow
I’ve only found the absence of a shadow
