One So Wise

He headed out that night into the dark
Inspired by a fleeting thought
«Could there be more to this epigraph
Than the bill of goods that I just bought?»
And with a rush, his feet began to move
Pacing with a quickening heart
Would this be the thing he’d chased for years
Or just another lifeless start?

The still glowing ember
Just waiting to burn

One so wise as he once knew
