Good Thing

Ever since I was ten
It was me and my friends
Playing touch football in the driveway
Yeah we would pretend
It was ten seconds left
Super Bowl hail Mary on the last play
So when that coach said
«You want a scholarship?»
I couldn’t help but cry
But after one year
And two surgeries
It wasn’t meant to be
Turns out it was a good thing that it didn’t work out
'Cause I wouldn’t be where I am right now
It’s a good thing God closed the door
He wanted to give me so much more
Than I ever wanted
Turns out that he was only getting started
Turning all my pain
And all my broken dreams
Into a good thing
We were high school flames
I planned on changing her name
Having kids and a house down in Denver
But along the way
separate ways
And we just couldn’t make it better
I asked God what I did to deserve this
But little did I know he was helping me grow so I could find my person
