Rats

Shutters are all down
Empty paint cans scattered on the ground
Every shop front reads another warning
But the lost heed not and the drums don’t stop
And the din grows like a storm cloud on the wind
No prophets left to purge our sins
No lights in the sky to follow
Blind and hollow idols falter
Senses watered down
And feet fixed to the ground
Like giants falling down
Now the rats are jumping ship
Oh, we’re headed for a fall
But I can’t seem to see the ground at all
Scraps for one and all
Eyes wide open
Lies have been spoken
Beasts have awoken
Ties must be broken now
Stitches come undone
Rescue parties spoiling all the fun
Searching for a way out where there is none
Just time to bide and occupy
So might as well just sit and watch the fires
Take what ever you desire
It’s not worth what you once thought
Paid and bought with paper dreams
Not worth their weight in gold
And as the rapture now unfolds
It’s something to behold
Now the rats are jumping ship
