I got hit, I got hurt
Everybody used to dish me dirt
To the skinny little kid who’d hang around on the block.
It was hard, it was rough
At seventeen, I’d saved enough
To get an education, worked my way to the top.
I was a skid row kid from Alabam
Born and raised down in Birmingham
Where the roof leaked bad and the crust was all we had to eat.
But I’m a big shot now, fancy jet,
Making deals with the president

At 25 I made my first stand to represent the people

I got votes here and there
