I might live a little longer dear
A sick mother said to her son
I will leave you when the roses disappear
They’re fading one by-why one
Then the boy got down to pray
And his prayer started in this way
Please paint a rose o’er the garden wall
So mum will think summer’s still here
The doctor said she
Would be taken from me When the roses dissappeared
She’ll think the painted flower is real
It will give her new courage somehow

So mama won’t leave me now

A boy’s best friend is his mother
And I for one know that it’s true
They’ll stay by your side when there’s no other
And guard you when you’re alone and blue
So is it asking to much dear God
To spare me these heartaches, these tears
