Slow Cathedral Melt

I reached the bridge in time to
stare at the sun.
I watched the hillside melt,
Saw the colors run out.
It’s just too soon
I know we planned it, but
I’ve been sleeping sideways just
To fill the space and…
When my head’s split open
From whatever I did to myself
Can we sort it out tomorrow?
And when I come in stumbling
I should’ve been home with you
learning something but
We’ll have to sort it out tomorrow
And when the light breaks in
You can hold me accountable then,
But till that time
We’ll draw the curtains till tomorrow
And I don’t care where you’ve been
What you’re into or who you’ve been with.

The rivers glint in passing
It stops me dead.
The withered thing that looks back
Some strange twin.
I climb the hill
To see what’s left
The crooked sun rays cast up
As a final gasp. and then in the night… Oh…

I can tend to things here alone
