Waiting In The Wings

Far past the outskirts of where you’re living now
Love, hope and dreams, they surely do abound
Replace your fear and anger with all these precious things
Don’t you know they’re out there waiting in the wings
Straw men and charlatans they’re everywhere
And they are quick to tell you exactly what you want to hear
Be careful what you wish for, beware of what they bring
Because they’re everywhere waiting in the wings
Everyone is searching for some place to go
Where I’ll finally wind up I don’t really know
Sometimes I feel like I’m just twisting in the wind
Still I know that something larger is waiting in the wings
Sometimes the biggest things of all remain unseen
When we let the small things get in the way
There’s no telling if we’ll ever pass this way again
Is this the beginning or is this the end?
Sometimes the hardest part of all is wondering
'Bout the day that I won’t be waiting in the wings
Now and then this old world does nothing but pull me down
It’s like an anvil that I wear around my neck and drag around
I’m looking for the light of love turned on and never dimmed
