The Young Man

Life is a very precious thing you only get one shot
I once knew a fine young man who loved his life a lot
But for some sudden reason no one else will ever know
He gave up his family and hopes and dreams, turned loose and let them go
I wish I could have been there with him to hold his hand
I wish I could have talked to him to help him understand
That he had everything to live for these intentions were all wrong
But in the flicker of an instant a young man’s life was gone
I wish somehow I knew exactly what he felt inside
I wish I knew just what went through his mind that summer night
I know at least a thousand times I’ve asked the good Lord why
But its best to just let him rest although it’s hard to say goodbye
He’s on his way to see Jesus, he’s left us and moved on
Now all we have are memories and a name tag etched in stone
He left his world behind at a time he felt he was all alone
Now he’s comin to see Jesus, please make him feel at home
