I imagined it was mutual
How could it have been
When all I wanted was to please you
It’s all contradictions
So I’ll disconnect the phone
Stay under the blanket
And pretend nobody’s home

And don’t let the bedbugs bite you or eat you
Or tell you what you ought to do
Nothing here has changed
Except the wallpaper with rosebuds
I’m the same as ever
And my neighbours with the strange thuds
Something here is glowing
I’m afraid it might be me

Thing as it was meant to be
