Fire Still Burns

I lost something I believed to be definitive
Suddenly, my chest was a dark and hollow place for years
Things I used to love I started to hate
Suffocating me
I couldn’t feel the pain
I couldn’t hear the beating of my heart at all
I lost my passion and desire for reasons unknown
Was it fear of sacrificing too much or lack of trust, I don’t know
It took me years to get the passion back
And to understand that I was a prisoner of the past
My fire still burns
Inside the walls of my fortress I rebuilt
The fire still burns
Giving me hope to see who I am
Life is not silver and gold
A little death could be a new beginning
