...vom freien Willen eines schwarzen Einhorns

Ich labe mein Auge an elfgrnen Hngen
An Klippen die ragen aus tosendem Meer
Seh' tausende Rsser zum Gipfel sich drngen
Voran eilt ein Schwarzes vor schneeweien Heer
Mit seidenen Fesseln erklomm es die Klippe
Doch manche es auch am Ende nicht halt
Entsetzt erstarrte die schneeweie Sippe
Als es da strzte in Fluten, so kalt
Das Schwarze erlst nun von einsamer Qual
Gestillt seine Sehnsucht von Freiheit und Willen
Mein Auge nun ruht auf herbstwelkem Tal
Ach, knnte ich auch meine Sehnsucht so stillen
So spr' ich die Sehnsucht nach khl-freiem Winde
Doch blick' ich voll Scham auf mein weies Gewand
Nachts weine ich nach dem ach' freien Kinde
Das mit dem schwarzen Einhorn verschwand
I feast my view at elf-green slopes
At reefs that rise from a roaring sea
I see a thousand horses run to the top
A black one runs in front of the snow white host
It reaches the top with silky bonds
But did not stop as it reached the end
Horrified are the snow white masses staring
As it plunged into the waves so cold
The black one now free from lonely anguish
Satisfied his longing for freedom and will
My eyes now resting on autumn withered valleys
Oh, could I satisfy my longing this way too?
So I feel the longing for fresh and free winds
But look full of shame at my white garment
At night I cry for the oh-so-free child
