Lost Balloon

My dear, I could’ve danced all night with you,
so free and easy on our feet.
The tune, it carried us so far away,
lifting us with each and every beat.
This heart of mine is brittle to the touch —
hold it tight and it could turn to dust,
let it go too fast and it will fall apart.
While the music plays, we do the things we must.
But I left too soon like a lost balloon.
