Awful Dream

Four in the morning, I woke with a start.
I woke with a pounding deep deep down in my heart.
And it’s all over now, but I had such an Awful Dream.
I don’t know what it tells me, I don’t know what it means.
I don’t know where it comes from, I don’t know where it leads.
And it’s all over now, but I had such an Awful Dream.
Maybe it was something somebody said.
Maybe it was nothing — wrong side of the bed.
All I know is that it scares me, even though it’s not real.
I had an Awful Dream.
Ain’t it strange what you see in the middle of the night?
When your eyes aren’t even open and there isn’t any light.
And it’s all over now, but I had such an Awful Dream.
Now I know what you’re thinking, you wanna know what went down.
You wanna know if you were in it, don’t worry girl, you weren’t around.
And it’s all over now, but I had such an Awful Dream.
Have you ever had the feeling, something you can’t shake?
It doesn’t matter if you’re sleeping or if you’re awake.
Where nothing’s as it should be, at least that’s how it seems.
And we all have Awful Dreams.
