Trod upon a path created for us
We were looking for backing
A drain to spit in
Shiny, blinding our eyes
Sneaky, launching a lie, and I stared there helpless
Led by imagination appeared what you were expecting
But depicted in a different way, they raised a mock voice
And a whole new story stemmed from the first intention
Caught up we rushed headlong in happiness jaws
And lord, you fully bit into our lives
Then the messenger came
He moved his arms apart
Greeting you behind the veil
Darkening your sight
Bloviated about a better world
Tell me, is it his voice I hear?
Am I being saved by the almighty hands?
Sing me your apologies
Confess so you can leave clean again
Sort out the hoaxes
And trade what you’ve been told
Against the shell you slaved to set
Or work your fingers to the bone in vain
