I went downtown on a sunny day
At the wheel of my brand new car
Then I tried to find a handy place to park
Where I wouldn’t have to walk too far
So, I drove around for half an hour
Just lookin' for a likeless spot
Then I saw a sign sayin'

So, I drove right up and the man inside
Put his coffee down and checked me in
He had a dog blue shirt and a Panama hat
And a four-inch scar on his chin
He sent me out to the second floor
Where the air was still and hot
And I parked my car at

The engine stopped and I found myself

Well, I gonna admit I was scared a bit
And I thought of my wife and my kids
So, you can put the blame on the coward in me
For doing what I finally did
I gave him my suit and the keys to the car

Well, I drove downtown later on that day
In the back of a black police car
But, we couldn’t find Henry Hannah’s place
Or a man with a four-inch scar
Then, at last, the truth began to dawn on me
I’ve been the victim of a devious plot

They took me home in my vest and short
A confused and a nervous man
Trying to think of a better excuse
