I was born on a midtown street corner
The lovechild of an inner city street performer
And when I came I brought about a change in the times
The kick, snare and bass line were my vital signs
Speaking universal tone that you relate with
And built a following that many take as sacred
Presently my family tree is in the millions
Of every demographic, men, women even children
Building upon me, they had the choice to speak
And 20 years later now the voice of the street

For many lives that I’ve touched it’s such a short span
Enabling the youth to follow this career plan
In the art to tell us what’s in the heart
