No matter where I go or what I do
You’re in my heart, Appalachian Blue, another day goes by
And they just shut down another Kentucky coal mine
A momma cries though her faith is strong
It’s hard to hold on for very long still she tries
It’s hard to hide her pain and sorrow
And she knows there’s hope as long as there’s a tomorrow
And the river flows but it can’t wash away her pride
Only heaven knows she’ll survive
You can hear it echo through the hollows
You can see it in the silver mist a-fallin'
Here’s to you my Kentucky grandmom that I never knew

The hills were a-flame where the blue and gray
Were laid to rest in graves without names
Side by side where they fought and died
In such a cost too many sons were lost and a father cries

But he knows there’s hope in the children of tomorrow
