If I Ever Do See You Again

We walk through the park down by the river
I kissed you underneath the linden tree
Your eyes said you would love me forever
Your mouth said «let's go home now, hurry please»
Sometimes I still see your little child
That we never had running to you
He is blond and firm of limb, but when I call out to him
He smiles and disappears into the blue
I can taste your softly urgent kisses
Hear your voice say «will you do everything?»
Smell the rain that falls on pines and birches
And see the way your summer dress would cling
Twenty years a couple busted phone calls
Letters that I had nowhere to send
I’d have to laugh I’d have to cry, looking deep into your eyes
If I ever do see you again
I’d have to laugh I’d have to cry, looking deep into your eyes
If I ever do see you again
