Pretty Thing

Any babies on the way?
Mama wants to know
That is how she wishes well
That is how she hopes
To better any darker time
Says children are the light
In every room
She had her first at just fifteen
In the middle of drought
Watched it turn my daddy mean
To have a scarlet note
While they waited on the rain
He left to see his place
In the sandy dunes
