Color Blind

Well I watched that city burn on my TV screen
Brand new baby boy sittin' next to me
And it got me thinkin' this ain’t how it’s supposed to be
Where did we go wrong?
Yeah we keep fightin' fights we ain’t gonna win
People live and die by the color of their skin
I wonder if it wouldn’t be so different
If that was all just gone
There’d be no green lights, neon lights, blue eyes cryin' in the rain
No perfect painted skies, no fields of gold and grain
But I can’t help but wonder, if the world was only shades of gray
No red, and yellow, brown, black, and white
Would the hurtin' stop? Would we be better off color blind?
We said that we’d do better than our parents did
And we wouldn’t make the same mistakes with our own kids
But here we are just playin' out the same old shit
I guess the problem’s us
But I wonder if the Lord above who made us
Is thinkin' that he overestimated us
And maybe bein' different wouldn’t break us
If all we saw was love
