There was Bob on the banjo and Dave on the old mandolin
And somebody cried out won’t you please play that again
Oh what a joy just to hear that ole music again
Being close by your friends
Just sittin' there talking and thinking bout the places we’ve been
Then someone starts singing and strumming a said melody
And the words tell a story bout someone like you and like me
Livin lovin and a highway where a man can be free
Goes so easily just to remind us how simple this old life could be
Like David and Susan who decided to follow their dreams
About leaving the city and going to the country it seems
Out to a valley where the waters flow peacefully
Just a sweet country dream
Where the stars shine so bright and the air always smells sweet and clean
Or bout Lou’s restless just thinking about goin out west
Till the day that he died his life was the family he lead
It’s been hard on the kids but I hear that she’s doing her best
I venture this guess she’s living and growing and learning like all of the rest
