So I showed up somewhat unprepared for this experience, and then kind of
blacked out the whole day because it was so traumatizing. But I mean it wasn’t
that bad, I kind of sound bitter,--I was a runner-up, but that’s just not
really my scene. ​
So anyways, I had fun imagining what comes after that, you know?​
I was Magnolia Queen back in '63
Beat out a hundred girls in the state of Tennessee
That’s the kinda crown you wear for more than just a year
Came time to give it up, had to hide my tears
Well thank God I spent all that time
Practicin' my smile
'Cause I had babies, he went to work
We raised the kids up in the church
Sundays I pray and sing
Mondays are for Junior League
Thought I wanted all those things

Lipstick and country clubs, blushing debutantes
Decorating some man’s arm, that’s all we were taught
Send the kids to private school out of the neighborhood
Oh yeah, it cost too much but the public school’s no good
And thank God I spent all that time
