You told me it was too much
I said that’s exactly how I want it, so
We, although nothing could be gained,
gave it everything just the same
So we grabbed on tight and held fast just like a child
And watched the best idea so quickly turn
the worst one, though
In those few hundred times you gave to me the whole,
the full inside, a single lifetime
But then all that was just a catalyst, a means to another end
There was no way we could know what we were headed for
And the saddest part about it was to lose the best of friends
But when that dust fell down that turn revealed a better thing, that was never
there before
When I came to it was much too much to handle
So much easier to just get into someone else, not myself
And before too long I was staring down another, the real one lost and left alone
But that was just a catalyst, a means to another end

And I had to learn the hard way you can break before you bend

So began the upward climb of pure survival
Just some half-hearted vague idea to go that way, no other way
But before too long you get picked up by the current, pushed along and day by
day
Inside symmetry takes hold again, division leaves the fold
All the time required, I find myself the most surprised
A rejoining combination brings us back to almost whole
