Getting a job in a subway
I’ll be making it work someday
only been busking a week
i’ve been knocked right off my feet
i’ve got a railway woman wanting me
i’ve got a preacher teaching chast-ty
all sorts breathing over me
blind to the course of my destiny
playing my guitar while singing in your company —
talking to me
people like never before
have been shouting out for more
just like the painter trying to capture me
though the picture is quite clear it seems
i won’t need my clothes as she
stretches her canvas underneath
playing my guitar and singing in her company — calling
to me
trying to strike up conversation
following the line to another station
giving a smile as you’re p-ssing by me
loving all the while, living in your company
getting a job in a subway

things i could never foresee
have been happening to me
like all the strange policemen questionings
about my active part in felonies
caution but just let me be
all of the time, well it’s clear to see
i’ve been playing my guitar and singing in your company
there’s no word or explanation
moving me along to a different station
all i seem to have is a pound upon me
adding it all up with loving in your company
they don’t understand they will understand just nothing
it’s a waste of time wanting

what everybody needs
is a little peace of mind
people would never believe
what’s been dropping at my feet
all kinds of drugs like hash and ecstasy
drunken females jewellery
with the promises they’ll do to me
