Dazzled

It must have been the gloomy lights
That I couldn’t see
What was beyond this confusion
The second face
So carefully hidden
Under a glance of shy embarrassment
It must have been the curls of smoke
That I couldn’t notice
What was beyond this masquerade
The ordinary coward
So perfectly hidden
Under the excuse of pure reserve
Does some demonic inner force drive you
Or what’s your motivation for this?
Just a load of empty talk
And I was again too dazzled to reveal
You are neither shy nor reserved
You just don’t want me
It must have been the effect of the rum
That I couldn’t feel
What was beyond your named intention
I should impose a curfew on myself
To prevent that I fall in love with every fool
Who crosses my way
It must have been culpable negligence
That I could believe
That you might be different
Actually I shouldn’t moan
You are not in the least worth mentioning
I don’t know you at all.
Does some demonic inner force drive me
Or is it just ingenuousness
That I am the victim of deceptions time and again?
I’m always too dazzled to reveal,
Too dazzled to foresee
Too dazzled to learn
Nothing is what it seems.
