Sea of Cortez

These shadows trace the footsteps
Of lonely, wounded, hardened men
This town of ghosts awakens
To greet another of its kin
Two thousand miles have led me
Down into this hole
Say your prayers
And cover me with the dirt of Mexico
There are angels and demons
In a dogfight above my head
There is anger and love
As they fall into the warm sea of Cortez
I wait for the waves to wash over me
But the salt stings of what I fear will always be
