This Is Grand

I’m contemplating a play where all the bets are safe: boys cross the street and
the sunset glows. I can’t compete. There’s decorations for streets,
the marketplace is abuzz. The laughter’s slow. The gravel scrapes up my legs
Swap my future for days: it costs a quarter to sleep, but I’ve come up short.
It’s pure theater at stake, the daily notice is signed, it’s a serious joke
«We look away just as fast as we can, because we’ve been safe at home.
«I'm sick, it’s just me and the kids, but we read all your notes…
«It'll all work out.» Yes: «it'll all work out.» I’m hanging upside down,
existing by default…
