Moonshine Blues

I’ve been a moonshiner
for seventeen long years.
I’ve spent all my money
for whiskey and beer.
I’ll go to some holler
and set up my still.
And if whiskey don’t get me
then I don’t know what I will.
I go to some barroom
and drink with my friends
where women can’t follow
to see what I spend.
God bless those pretty women,
I wish they was mine.
Their breath is as sweet
as the dew on the vine.
I’ll eat when I’m hungry,
moonshine when I’m dry.
many dollars when I’m hard-up,
religion when I die.
The whole world is a bottle
where lives get drowned.
When the bottle gets empty
God it ain’t worth a dime.
