The Forest and the Hum

We’ve got the place surrounded, came rattling through the walls
The faded rays of sun, keep escaping through the door
They’re stretching as they nervously make a break for anywhere else
Just reaching the divinity of growing dusty on the highest shelf
Your accent is so lovely but I won’t guess where it’s from
For the safest place to live between is the forest and the hum
The streets they grow in circles, but the days we keep in line
Always floating to the corners, getting heady on the concept of time
Finally drowning under the table, when I learn about fresh air
But my guilt consoles the children, says it way never really there
The castle on the hill has three colors on its flag
The first one stands for allegiance, the other two have slipped my mind
Now for each color separately I’d surely lay it all on the line
But I can’t rightly bring myself to believe in all three at the same time
