Sister Mary’s got some
Strange medicine lately
Keeps her up all night
Makes her sleep all day
Woke up this morning to the pouring rain
Sister Mary cries on the floor
She drank some coffee and she tried to explain
What she stayed up all night for

To crash the sky, to fly so high on the wings of my dreams
Well every diamond shines but every flower fades
And Sister Mary won’t be the same
She checked her makeup and I lit her cigarette
And she says mirror mirror on the wall
Who’s the fairest child with a soul full of regret?
And nothin' thrills me anymore
She says remember when your friends called me the queen
They used to hang around, make whistle sounds back when I was 16
I’m so afraid to hear what they’d call me today

And I promise I remember
Days of poetry and pain
And she swore that she would never surrender
