Selfish to the Core

Take the road that leaves the city behind,
The heat and I are bosom buddies,
We move indefinitely- I’m often sad about it.
I know we’re just an acre away,
But when I think it over,
We live one million miles from there.
The city is making me selfish to the core.
I don’t care about no one else.
Faster! The amber glow is starting to swell.
Raising babies on rocket fuel.
(What did I eat today?) Pull over, pull over, stop the car!
What do you mean I never phoned you?
We grew up
And grew apart
And it always hurts like Hell when it’s blood.
But maybe I’m, maybe I’m selfish to the core.
I don’t care about no one else;
I’m only thinking, thinking about myself,
