I fell in love with a mermaid, met her on the floor of the sea
About seven miles south, of the Florida Keys
She’d visit me every night, when the rays of the moonlight
Cut through the dark of the ocean, which allowed her to see
Where the seaweed sway and wooden ships decay
You’ll lose track of th days in these underwatr graves
She was puzzled at my appearance with bright blue
And then I glowed and up close, you could see right through
I was shackled to the ship, a spirit of a man
Who’d give all the gold on the ocean floor to hold her hand
She’d read to me, books that I’d long forgotten
Sometimes half of the story if the pages were rotten
I would tell her every tale, every whale that we caught
About the men who’d died against the monster they fought
She stared at me wide-eyed, clearly distraught
Realizing that man, was away worse then she thought
From moonlight to sun, sunlight to moon
She’d blow me a kiss and said, «I'll be back soon.»
Shark passed me by, ships passed above
Waved crashed to shore, bring back my love
The summertime shed her skin, winter was settin' in
Time kept passin' but I couldn’t forget a thing
I’d scream out, her name in vain
I was going insane and couldn’t shatter the chains
