Black Notebook

My mind was playing on repeat
I could no longer separate what was real
From my own strong will to feel
That everything was fine
I decided to write down my endless thoughts on paper
To try to make everything seem a little clearer
I found a little black notebook on top of my refrigerator
I started ripping out the pages that I’d already used
I tore them apart — I needed a fresh start
And then I read some notes I made last year in October
There they were — the same phrases I’ve been repeating over and over
