Red in Tooth and Claw

Some days when I wake the world it seems so quiet
as if the sky has pulled a gray curtain over my eyes
I know that it is me who is colorblind and deaf
and everything I cannot see is as it was when I left
I am stranded on the brink of myself
wanting to be moving without skin, without stealth
a passing stranger whispers with a glance
