Becoming

When I think about the girl
I was
All the failures
and the triumphs
that made me
who I am
I can see
that through the
madness
it was faith that kept me
going
There are some things
I may
never understand
But I’m learning how to listen
and love myself again
Realizing that you cannot have the day
without the night
What loving taught me what love is
I’ve been hurting for so long
I thought that it was what defined
me
That if I laid my burdens down
I’d cease to be
I’d disappear
but I’m still here
I can’t imagine how different I would be
had I grown up with my father
and his
family
Life choices cannot be undone and done again
So I’m learning to be present and forgive
And for when sorrow gets so heavy
I can’t breathe
God made sure I had a sister
She always carries me
And real friends to help me see what I don’t see
And my mama
And music
And I’m
