Stranger in the Soul

I feel what he felt
I glimpse what he saw
I sense what he thought
In the life before
He stole into me
Invaded my sleep
I woke but still kept
The distance of a dream
He must have strayed to be part of me
To look through my eyes at the changing world
There’s only one way to set him free
But I choose to live with the stranger in the soul
Inscrutable night
So still in its truth
It lays down no cause
Gives up no clues
But I don’t feel the pain
That loneliness brings
W e stare down this age
It’s the stranger who sings
